The APOLENA Foundation was established on December 13th 2013 (find out more about its founders here). Its primary goal is to provide financial support to endoscopy theatres at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the General University Hospital in Prague and the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, also known as "U Apolináře".
The G5 Endoscopy unit at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics carries out surgical interventions using highly specialised endoscopic techniques, known to the lay public as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. These endoscopic techniques are important in that by using the least invasive – that is gentle – methods they make possible major surgery which give women hope of becoming pregnant and giving birth to a healthy baby, solve difficult medical situations and often save lives.
Gynaecologic endoscopy is a very dynamic discipline which responds in a flexible manner to progress in science and technology. Each year we see innovation which significantly improves the treatment of women patients as well as their further prognosis. This progress however means higher demands for financing such sophisticated surgical interventions.
The APOLENA Foundation responds to the need of the G5 Endoscopy Unit at "U Apolináře" to secure sufficient finance for surgery carried out using the latest endoscopic techniques. The assistance is not purely local: the G5 unit is also a training centre which organises courses of gynaecologic endoscopy for doctors from across the Czech Republic. The level of technical equipment in this establishment therefore has a significant impact on the level of care in other establishments around the country.
We sincerely believe that we will be able to win support both from companies and large corporations as well as individuals.
